3. ELA Technology Standards

During the afternoons, on Monday - Friday, I work with the Boys and Girls Club after school. At the Boys and Girls Club, I work with a group of 12-15 2nd graders. Therefore, I looked up the ELA standards for grade 2. The ELA standards for 2nd grade seem pretty simple to me.
Although I am not a technology expert, I am able to, and would be prepared to teach, students how to use information gained from the illustrations and words in a print or digital text to demonstrate understanding of its characters, setting, or plot. This will be simple to me because throughout most of my years in k-12, I have been required to look at documents to determine the meaning, characters, setting, or plot. Throughout my college experience, I have gained a great deal of experience using information from digital to determine the meaning, characters, setting, or plot. Throughout my college experience, I have also had the opportunity to easily understand how to use various text feature to locate key facts or information in a text efficiently, use a variety of digital tools to produce and publishing writing (including collaboration with peers), and how to describe key ideas from a text orally, or through media.
A standard that I am not familiar with and would not be prepared to teach would beLAFS.2.SL.2.5adding drawings or other visual displays to stories of experiences.  I would not be prepared to teach this standard because I am not familiar with interactive storybooks and never have been required to use one. In order to teach my students this standard, I would have to better familiarize myself with interactive storybooks. Besides this one standard the rest of the ELS technology standards for 2nd grade are easily reachable for me as I have been mastering them throughout my school experience.

Diigo so far has been a great tool and resource to use to share links and web resources. Diigo has been also a great tool to use when to look up other resources. With Diigo you can look for references using several different tags, separating them using quotations. Once you have found a resource that has been started that is relevant to you, you can see what others have posted or commented that stood out about the site. All of these points that I have covered is the reason that Diigo would be and effective and efficient for team members, classmates in a group. Diigo allows for users to create groups. In these groups, resources are only shared amongst group members. Powerpoint is a very useful tool and can be used to support learning at each level of Bloom's Taxonomy. To implement the first level, remembering, I would show my 2nd grade math class, a link to a video that would help them remember their multiplication facts. For the second level, understand, I would upload an image of...

A flipped classroom is a strategy of blended learning that does not use the traditional person to person approach to learning. In a flipped classroom, instructional material and learning is delivered online, outside of the classroom. I was introduced to flipped classrooms in high school when Broward County schools required high school students to take an online class to graduate. For me, the experience was definitely a new one as I was not used to doing work on a computer, being more of a hands on person. I believe that a flipped classroom may no be ideal for all types of learning, but comes with many advantages, like online distance learning. Some online courses, unlike the one I took with Broward County, are open educational resources. An open educational resource is an online resource that anyone can use, usually free, increase their knowledge, and access to different resources. The online class I took with Broward County schools, is not an open educational resource because it was...

ILP "Participation - Teacher Interview"

For this  voice thread , I decided to not go on lnyda.com or MOOC because instead of testing something out for myself, I wanted to see what the professionals were actually doing. For such reason, I decided to interview a 1st grade teacher on her use of technology in the classroom. I interviewed a first grade teacher because I currently work close with that grade level and may be interested in teaching elementary one day. I was surprised by many of my discoveries of the educational technology being used in elementary school, and how it is fairly similar to some of the technology used in college. Take a look! https://voicethread.com/share/12396638/
